Lifted fresh red fruit and spice characters. The colour still a vibrant deep red. Lovely savory, red cherry flavors and fine grained tannin from the perfectly ripe fruit and French oak. The oak takes a background seat due to the use of luncheons and mostly older oak. This is a fine Hunter Valley Shiraz.

94 pts - Halliday Wine Companion: “This uses grapes from young vines on the Graveyard Vineyard and declassified wine from other original estate vines, matured in French oak. This is undeniably very complex, shouting its Hunter Valley terroir from the rooftops. It has a diamond-cut angularity to its mouthfeel common to all of the ‘13 Brokenwood Shirazes.”
92 pts - Vinous: “Deep ruby. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, floral pastilles, musky underbrush and allspice, with a mineral element adding interest. Sweet, focused and lithe on the palate, offering energetic black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors that turn deeper and sweeter on the back half. Combines power and vivacity effortlessly and finishes juicy and very long, with fine-grained tannins gently shaping the wine’s nervy dark fruit.”
90 pts - Wine Enthusiast: “Despite being only medium bodied, this is a firmly tannic, structured wine. Subtle French oak scents of cedar and vanilla accent mixed berry fruit, while the finish is youthful, crisp and unyielding.”
