At .8 acres this parcel is pure “alterite”. “Yamhill Close” is an unusual vineyard parcel in the Yamhill Carlton AVA as it is all finely eroded volcanic rock and no flood wash as you find elsewhere in this AVA. Dark fruit flavors are marbled with fingers of mineral flavors that rise from the weathered basalt of the vineyard. The wine has a brunette energy that propels the aromas out of the glass and the flavors to the roof of your mouth. A distinctive soft texture lets the purity of the flavors sit on your pallet for an extended period.

94 pts - Wine Spectator: “Polished and alluringly structured, with rich raspberry and pomegranate flavors accented by plum tea, mineral and spice notes that glide on the long finish.”
93 pts - Vinous: “Limpid ruby-red. Blackberry, cherry and baking spice aromas are complemented by tea rose, savory herb and cola flourishes. Chewy and energetic on the palate, offering densely packed dark fruit, bitter chocolate and spicecake flavors that deepen slowly and turn sweeter through the mid-palate. Shows repeating spiciness on an impressively long, floral-driven finish that's given shape by fine-grained, steadily building tannins.”
90 pts - Robert Parker Wine Advocate: "This is one of Rose & Arrow's "villages" wines. Fruit is sourced from a vineyard planted on finely eroded volcanic rock at 540 feet in elevation. Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Yamhill Close is scented of red currants, red and black cherries and dried blackberries over an earthy/minerally core: dried leaves, mushroom and turned earth with touches of dried floral perfume and crushed rock. Medium-bodied, it has good presence in the mouth—there’s a nice interplay here of soft texture with tannic bones—fleshed out by red and black fruit layers, spices and earth. It has great juicy acidity and a long finish."
