A favorite of many of the cellar workers, this classic blend needs some time to unwind. The nose is fragrant, with intense McLaren Vale Grenache blood orange character, supported with ferrous and iodine notes. There’s some initial fruit sweetness on the front palate, quickly morphing into a long line of concentrated red fruit and spice. The fi nish is tangy, with young, crunchy tannins, resulting in a wine with fantastic structure and incredible length.

94 pts - JamesSuckling.com: “Very fresh and attractive blueberries and wild herbs on offer here with plums and earth, as well as spiced chocolate. The palate has a deeply assertive and fresh, long, muscular style with plenty of fresh red to blue-fruit flavor.”
92 pts - Robert Parker Wine Advocate: “The 2016 The Ironstone Pressings Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre is 70% Grenache, 25% Shiraz and 5% Mourvèdre. Full-bodied and muscular, it practically defines several generations of Australian "red table wines." It's capable of being consumed young if you have an appetite for tannin, or it can be aged up to a decade, perhaps longer. Personally, I'd drink the 2015 now, and put the 2016 in the cellar. Black cherries, cedar and tar appear on the nose, while the concentrated flavors follow similar lines, adding hints of plum, raspberry and licorice.”
88 pts - Wine Enthusiast: “This vintage of this quintessential South Aussie blend leans heavily on Grenache, with 25% Shiraz and 5% Mourvèdre. Brambly blackberry, olive, sap and toasty, vanillin oak notes lead on the rich, heady nose. Rustic and fairly straightforward for a premium-priced wine, it has a rich palate dominated by muscular, drying and rather aggressive tannins that feel like sandpaper on the tongue. Those brambly, savory flavors are there, too, flowing through to the finish.”
